Bachelor of Music in Music Education – Mansfield University Master of Music in Music Education with an emphasis in Vocal Pedagogy – Marywood University Orff Level 1 Kodaly Level 1

Mr. Latsha

I was born in Herndon, PA and graduated from Line Mountain High School.  I received my Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from Mansfield University where I was a voice and piano major.  I began teaching at Bloomsburg High School and W. W. Evans Elementary School in the fall of 1991.  To better prepare for teaching the early elementary levels, I studied Orff Level 1 and Kodaly Level 1. Desiring to know more about the voice, I attended the Voice Care Network in Minnesota and then pursued a Vocal Pedagogy degree at Marywood University.  In 2000, I assumed the responsibilities of drama director at Bloomsburg High School.

Outside of the district, I have been the professional accompanist of the Buffalo Valley Singers, the co-director of the Milton Harvest Festival Pops, the music director for Caldwell Camp and most recently the music director and accompanist of the Community Arts Center Student Summer Stock productions.  Last year, I began teaching music education classes at Lycoming College.

To strengthen the choral art in Columbia and Montour counties, I was one of the founders of the Columbia-Montour County Chorus Association which began in 1994.

I enjoy spending my spare time with my family including my two college aged daughters and our dog, Daisy.  Recently, I have developed a love of reading fiction.

I enjoy teaching the students of W.W. Evans Elementary and Bloomsburg High School.  I teach…”metacognition through the art form of music” and I teach old and young to be more “human” through the study of vocal/choral music and drama.
