Math
Each day we will have a large group math lesson that focuses on one of the following math topics or problem-solving strategies. After the large group math lesson, students will divide into smaller groups to try different activities, games, and centers which focus on how to apply the skill or strategy taught to the class that day.
Math topics and problem-solving strategies:
Trimester 1:
Count by tens and ones from 0 to 120
Gather and represent data using tables and charts
Combinations that make ten
Represent addition and subtraction problems to 20 using objects, drawings, and equations
Represent and solve addition and subtraction word problems to 10
Telling time to the hour
Count coins using pennies and dimes
Trimester 2
Use the concept of tens and ones to represent and compare two-digit numbers
Comparing objects by measurement
Order objects according to length
Measure with non-standard units
Represent addition and subtraction problems to 50 using objects, drawings, and equations
Represent and solve addition and subtraction word problems to 20
Telling time to the nearest half hour
Count coins using pennies nickels and dimes
Trimester 3
Identify and distinguish attributes of 2D and 3D shapes
Compose geometric shapes from 2 or more smaller shapes
Decompose geometric shapes into halves and fourths
Use place value concepts and properties of operations to find sums and differences to 100
Represent and solve addition and subtraction word problems within 100
Use data in tables, charts, and graphs to solve problems
Count groups of coins using combinations of dimes, nickels, and pennies
Read and write time to the nearest five-minute interval on both analog and digital clocks
