    Course Outline for 7th Grade Math:


    7th Grade Mathematics is a comprehensive course in basic math skills designed to prepare students for 8th grade math. Topics include: Whole Numbers, Decimals, Fractions, Number theory, Integers, Pre-Algebra, Ratios, Proportions, Percents, Discount, Sale Price, Sale Tax and  Final Cost.

    Rationale/Philosophy:

    The educational goals of the Bloomsburg Area School District reflect the importance of mathematical literacy.  Toward this end, the k-12 standards articulate five general goals for all students: (1) that they learn to value mathematics, (2) that they become confident in their ability to do mathematics, (3) that they become mathematical problem solvers, (4) that they learn to communicate mathematically, (5) and that they learn to reason mathematically.

    First Marking Period:

    Learn to round, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and decimals. Work with exponents or powers, prime and composite numbers, factors and multiples.

    Second Marking Period:

    Learn to work with, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and integers.

    Third Marking Period:

    Do order of operations, combining like terms, substitution, one and two-step equations. write a short math report on a famous man or woman in mathematics in March for mathematics awareness month to be shown at the Share Fair. Work on changing to equivalent fractions, decimals and percents.

    Fourth Marking Period:

    Work on ratios, proportions, percents, percent statements, discount, sale price, tax, final cost, simple interest, as well as take a final exam.
