• At Bloomsburg, we provide a variety of special education services to our students from kindergarten through high school. Services range from consultation and direct services in the classroom to pull-out services and self-contained classrooms with specialized instruction.

    The Special Education office works with principals, teachers, parents, and students to coordinate the educational and other needs of students in the Bloomsburg Area School District.

    Our specialized staff conducts evaluations and develops Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal laws. We deliver services that support the needs of each student in the least restrictive environment (LRE).

    In compliance with state and federal laws, notice is hereby given by the Bloomsburg Area School District that it conducts ongoing identification activities as part of its school program for the purpose of identifying students who need special education and related services (eligible students).

    If the district identifies your child as possibly in need of such services, you will be notified of procedures, individualized services and programs available for children who are determined to need specially designed instruction under the following categories: Autism, Blindness, Deafness, Emotional Disturbance, Hearing Impaired, Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedic Impairment, Other Health Impairments, Traumatic Brain Injury, Visual Impairment, Specific Learning Disability, and Speech and Language Impairment.

    If you believe that your school-age child may be in need of special education screening or evaluation, services are available to you at no cost, upon written request.  You may request screening and evaluation at any time, even if your child is not enrolled in the district's public school program.  Requests for evaluation and screening are made to any building principal, school psychologist or the Supervisors of Special Education.

    If you disagree with the results of the evaluation, you have a right to access an outside evaluation for your child.  The Bloomsburg Area School district complies with all federal and state regulations and requirements regarding access to and provision of independent evaluations. 

    Act 212, the Early Intervention Services System Act, entitles all preschool - age children with disabilities (ages three to the age of district enrollment) to appropriate early intervention services.  The Pennsylvania Department of  children.  Education is responsible for providing those services to children.
